Poems and Paintings February 2025

Below you can read all the poems I wrote in the month of February 2025. I have included some of the paintings which accompanied the poems, you can find them all in the link at the bottom of the post.

A highlight of February, from an art point of view, was Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year selecting my painting to be featured on their socials.

Eyes of innocents

Are windows to their souls

Bright despite anguish

Bright despite anguish

We hide from reality

Mental health holiday

Mental health holiday

A regular appointment

Then reconnect

Then reconnect

Take action to help children

Eyes of innocents

Covid day of reflection

We are asked to "remember"

But for me it's not passed

It's still front and centre

My health hasn't recovered

My body is still weaker

Just this week I was hospitalised

Long covid makes healing harder

So whilst some might recall

A time that's now over

We must never forget

The impacts still linger

...

The world came together as the people stayed apart

Until separation sparked division which sadly was the start

Of a binary revolution where compromising stopped

Everyone taking a side and thinking they were robbed

Of the ideal way to live, to make the world much better

All that's been achieved is everyone's now a hater

Where has gone compassion and trying to help the needy

Now it's all about money and worshipping the greedy

I really hoped we'd learn, to focus on the planet

Instead it seems quite certain we'll have no planet to inhabit

I like to finish poems with positivity and hope

So here's hoping we can find a better way to cope

...

You are my sunshine

On pitter-patter rain days

Carrying my heart

Carrying my heart

Through seasons unspoken

Blooming in absence

Blooming in absence

Surrendering to the storm

You are my sunshine

...

Painting my past years

On sharp shards of broken glass

Fatigue overwhelms

Unable to find relief

Soft pillows now hard as boards

...

Tranquility is seldom discovered

By searching

Or yearning

Instead it is uncovered

Surprising the unincumbered

Sneaking out in unexpected moments

In woodland silence

Or musical resonance

As the mind stills

The heart rate slows

Until a sense of calm grows

Overflows

Bestows

A gift of peace

Despite the strife of life

...

Absence creates voids

Echoing with unsaid words

Seeking their freedom

...

Embrace a new book

Let your imagination

Transport you away

On fabulous adventures

Where your worries can't find you

...

Tranquil afternoons

Follow mornings without the news

Living the dream

Ignoring the nightmare

Until I have strength to fight

...

Developing hope

With each new day's chances for

Creativity

Creativity

Floating around your senses

Proactive freedom

Proactive freedom

Construct inner boundaries

Compassionately

Compassionately

Loving with serenity

Developing hope

...

Rainbows paint your name

Across the misty mornings

Our stars align

...

Rich white men have taken over

Making a charge for total power

Domination

Across every nation

Selfishly

Publicly

Greedily

Inhumanely

They are toddlers with egos

Throwing tantrums

Gathering together in greedy gangs

Pursuing their own aims

Trampling everyone who gets in their way

Creating chaos without a backward glance

They want the world to be poor

At war

Divided

Disconnected

Panicked

Distracted

So their plans go unnoticed

They are lighting fires

Thousands of fires

Large and small

All over the world

Keeping us busy trying to put them out

Our eyes smart from the smoke

We start to choke

Losing energy

Lost in despondency

We become blind to the horror

It's too much for our minds

And so we start to give up

Start to think smaller

It's easier to ignore all the horror

When we close the doors to each other

And that's what they want!

For us to feel disempowered

To keep us cowered

Disorganised

Divided

We can't create change if we're terrified!

But we must keep connected

Keep listening to each other

Not fighting against one another

Seeing the bigger picture

Speaking truth to power

Now is the time to join together

Break down the barriers they've erected to divide us

Knowing that there's so much more that connects us

Than following the man with a plan to destroy us

Let's put out the all consuming fire

Before it burns much wider and higher

We can't be blinded by the flickering light

Put down the smores, it's time to fight!

...

Stop the crazy greed

Time for the tables to turn

Burn away egos

...

Nature's wisdom seeks

Permission from nobody

Symbiotic lives

...

Caressed by nature

Feet immersed in green lichen

Beneath dark blue skies

...

Love yourself again

Stitch together the fragments

Of your broken heart

...

I write every day,

in many ways,

in my head with rhythm,

in letters unbidden,

through poetry from inside me,

sometimes fleeting,

never judged,

often flowing as the words are floating,

many times I speak them in notes,

trying to ensure they don't vanish,

but for every phrase that gets jotted down,

I'm sure there are thousands which never wear a crown.

Perhaps those words, phrases and poems,

return another day,

or do they just float away,

carrying ideas that don't need to see the light of day.

Does it matter?

That there are ideas I never capture?

What I definitely know is that writing is the way to go,

for supporting my mental health,

creativity always helps myself,

allowing the thoughts which inside would eat me,

instead releasing them to fly free,

to whoever needs to read them,

speak them,

hear them.

Sweet symphonies sing

Melancholic melodies

Wearily we waltz

...

I long to be stitched

Into the patchwork of your heart

Refined in fire

Refined in fire

Galactic teardrops crystallise

Orbiting love

Orbiting love

Ribboned together in dreams

Moonlit lullabies

...

Silent places sing

Ethereal symphonies

Whispers echo low

Releasing core vibrations

Ancient landscapes resonate

...

Given time we will tunnel together

Deep into the unseen places

Discovering a truth long laid dormant

That the broken pieces of me

Complete the broken pieces of you

Timelessly

...

Try not to collapse

Under the weight of the world

Focus on each breath

...

Shedding history

Lost in the wisdom of woods

Emerald eyes glint

...

Shimmering sunsets

End gloomy days hopefully

Magical moments

...

Even gloomy days

Bring glimmers of light and hope

It is worth the search

...

Abandoned buildings

Exhibit brave scars of war

Outrage shouts the truth

Outrage shouts the truth

Democracy died here

Ashes full of hope

Ashes full of hope

Are rekindled with passion

Hand in hand we stand

Hand in hand we stand

Together refurbishing

Abandoned buildings

...

I take great solace

In the knowledge that love wins

At this game of life

But before that win

We must remove suffering

Whilst power plays games

...

Canal boats slowly

Meander with wildflowers

Whilst butterflies rest

Miniature railways

Steam around tiny mountains

Whistling with the weeds

Cars speed round the track

Creating tornadic noise

Hedgehogs watch and wait

Space shuttles explode

To planets undiscovered

Hope will lead the way

...

Love is in the little things

The tiny whispers

And unheard words

The hand of assistance

And unobserved actions

The cup of tea

And unexpected dinner

The breath of hope

And unfailing patience

Love is in the every day

Not always on display

Come what may

I'm here to stay

...

Our hearts are joined

By an invisible thread

Woven with love

...

Invisible threads

Link together those who care

About the planet

And all who inhabit it

Love is an action of hope

...

Cosmic truths emerge

When different opinions share

Their worries and loves

...

You are my safe place

An empty beach and calm sea

On a warm spring day

We transmit as one

Resonating on wavelengths

Harmoniously

...

The art of falling in love:

Trust yourself completely

Respect others deliberately

Live your life vibrantly

...

With love I send you

A sweet scented paper heart

My perfume a gift

Reminiscent of summer

On these long cold winter nights

Oh my love so sweet

Thank you for the memories

Bringing us closer

On the scent of your beauty

Floating around my senses

This is a somonka, a Japanese form of two tankas written as two love letters between two people.

Over the decades

We journey together

Singing loves Aubade

...

Your words are my mellifluous muse

Lullabies of hope that cradle my heart

Bringing peace to places of pain

An antidote to my aching parts

...

Beloved peace

Surpassing any thought

Answers my prayer

...

Generosity

Of time, friendship and patience

The art of the world

...

The agony of loving too much

For the world and everyone in it

Is the endless heartbreak

For the hurt caused by those

Without empathy or compassion

To people who least deserve it

...

Graceful swans glide

Effortlessly without

Displaying their pain

...

Love shall pierce the hard hearts of the greedy and powerful

This is my prayer

...

Love shall pierce fear

As the beloved creates

The art of the world

...

On a day darker than night

Light sparkled within my eyes

The galaxies forming heavenly hope

Leading me star by star

To a place of trust transported

Into our uncertain world

...

Each minute matters

A stone of love in the path

Labyrinth of life

Labyrinth of life

Beautiful exploration

One day at a time

...

The child who never lets go

Becomes the adult who holds too tight

To love

And hate

To expectations

And failures

To projections

And mistakes

To friendships

And abandonments

Never realising that fairy tales are not guidebooks

But cautionary stories

That life is a journey of learning

About ourselves every day

...

The snow moon watches

As climate controlled cities

Ignore nature's truth

Rhythms and seasons proceed

Without considering us

...

Spring roses climb delicately

Finding their way through cracks and crevices

Seeking the light of love

Desiring no celebration

They invite insects to feast at their centre

Interdependent creation

...

Where the sky is wide

Troubles float free on the breeze

Encountering God

Written for the uk moot pass the piece project. Sent to Will Demou on 11 Feb 25 by messenger

...

Overwhelmed in every way

It's hard to face each coming day

Too much terrifying news

So many toxic, hate filled views

Leaders stirring up huge division

Give people freedom to share derision

Compassion seems to have flown away

But we can't give up, can't let hope decay

I won't allow the exclusivity

To undermine the fight for justice inside me

To ensure that the poor, marginalised and needy

Are included, valued, lifted up in society

Instead of feeling so despondent

We can create a hopeful movement

With light we'll find a better way

Overwhelming hate with love each day

...

Dear daughter you are

A piece of my heart in the world

Uncovering opportunities

Glimmering with hope

Hatching optimistic solutions

To trials and challenges

Effervescing with a future as yet unknown

Rocking at life every day

...

Velvet Uniforms

Worn on spiky anxious days

Protect wounded souls

Protect wounded souls

Keepsakes bring back memories

Passports to the past

Passports to the past

Places where connection lasts

Engraved on benches

Three connected haiku about love, life, loss and mental health

...

Standing strong and firm

Ancient monoliths observe

Natural rhythms

History yet unwritten

Within golden hearts of stone

...

I wear tiny red hearts down my sleeve

Delicate moments of hope stitched into fabric

Each one a promise wrapped in crimson

A reminder that love begins within me

The hearts beat in rhythm with my existence

A gentle pulse echoing through crowded rooms

Unspoken words sing in sweet release

Unfolding from layers of whispered tension

Fearful glances caught in mirrors of doubt

Gleam dark and fierce in flickering light

Their reflections reclaim all that was lost

Dreaming of stars that bloom at night

Like love letters penned at the dawn of knowing

Sprouts of vulnerability strengthen endlessly

Now we release these hearts to journey

Echoing the long lost hope within me

...

There once was a boat on the sea

Transporting love letters to me

A storm brewed off shore

Trying to settle a score

But love forced the lightning to flee

When lightning strikes twice

Myriad sparks take flight

Ideas appear

With tornadic momentum

Generating hope

Revolution

Stirs cyclones of movement

Hope evanesces

Across continents

Instilling fear in those who care

Yet in the darkness light develops

Creating together

A more

Hopeful future

"Sleep is for the weak"

What a reprehensible critique

Sleep is for the strong

For the struggling

For the sick

For those surviving

For healers

Fighters

Outsiders

Advisors

For dreamers

Over achievers

Word weavers

For the grievers

For the children

Exhausted mothers

Exhausted fathers

It's an essential part of life

Especially in times of strife

Tonight the moon is

a silent witness to love

shared across the world

...

Time to bridge the gap between opposing forces

That are pulling apart on differing causes

Negotiations that once were highly viewed

Are banished upon leaders' changing mood

Designing solutions that meet across oceans

Are more important than fleeting emotions

Don't let them divide us on key global issues

Collaboration is the essential path we must choose

...

If love had a name she would be mother

Mother Earth

Mother Tongue

Motherland

Mother of Pearl

Full of Motherly Love

...

Toucans call awakening dawns

In forests filled with hunters horns

Fearful of future days

Lucid lullabies dream of peace

Yet nature never finds release

Can we find better ways

You ignore today
