June 2026 Poetry

I’m not sharing as much of my poetry and art on social media because the algorithm is rubbish and doing my head in, instead I’m focusing on rest and the actual creativity itself. So here are all the poems I wrote through the month of June.

A drawing of an eye surrounded in doodles and tangles
A drawing of an eye surrounded in doodles and tangles

Glistening moon beams

Overshadow soulless stars

Darkness swallows light

...

Tiny buds grown green and bright

Reached for the sun, desiring light

One morning bloomed, took up their space

White petals around their yellow face

At night they bow, as colours fade

It's time to sleep in deepening shade

The soil cools, leading roots down deep

Daisies rest, our secrets they keep

How do we connect with our loving God?

Do we grope along a messy path

out into the inky dark

Listening for sounds in the heavy silence

Longing to receive some helpful guidance

Do we worry that we're long forgotten

Somehow outside of God's affection

Whilst knowing the Holy Spirit is present

Especially in our human torment

Always move forward with trust

Knowing God is more than enough

Having faith that all will be well

If in God's love we live and dwell

We need not strive to prove our worth

We are loved even before our birth

Pickerel frog leaps

Silently across hot stones

Fires burn within

...

How I long for ordinary

On overheating days like these

In the seventh circle of hell

...

Dreams beside the lake

Quell insidious fears

Cool breeze of twilight

...

Don't search for fame

It's bright, loud and fleeting

No delicacy

Let creativity name

The joy within that you're feeling

In another lifetime prepare

To accept obscurity

Discovering peace

Offering in prayer

Maturity

Ancient stones stand firm

Mausoleum rhapsody

Echoes of the dead

...

Wounds that never heal

Fester within the soul

Darkly

Deeply

Desperately

Creating a toxic sludge

Eating away at the heart

Painfully

Persistently

Powerfully

Take care to heal the pain

Forgiving past mistakes

Carefully

Creatively

Completely

Then you will discover freedom

Bathing in hopeful glimmers

...

Ordinary lives

Constricted and restricted

As heat keeps rising

...

No, I will not laugh

You're just getting worse with age

No, that was a cough

Suppressing a smile

If he sees it I'll collapse

Oh how I love Dad

But not his jokes!

I refuse to admit to that

I have better taste

...

Can I forgive myself?

I pretend I can

I mean I try

I really try

But then I come up with reasons why

I need to take the blame

Carry the strain

Throw myself down the drain

Again

It's as if I feel I NEED to suffer

Deserve to suffer

Yet I'd take this from any other

Who had it even half as tough

I would scream "enough"

I'd help them let go

Release the pain

Find their way back home again

But I keep going back into the maze of no hope

The labyrinth of regret

Determined to never forgive or forget

Myself

Quote Prompt from John Greene's novel 'Looking for Alaska'- "The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive."

Southern exposure used to be a blessing

On the days of wet cold summer

Now it's torture

Brought on the changing gulf stream

We thought warmth was a dream

But now the template climbs ever higher

...

Southern exposure

A warming grace

On summer days

A chilly space

It chased the damp

It dried the air

A welcome friend

Beyond compare

But weathers shift

The currents sigh

Old heat embrace

Now makes us cry

The warmth now burns

A heavy shroud

A fevered world

Too hot, too loud

...

Sun warmed chilly days

Now southern heat sears my hand

Gulf stream's fiery breath

...

Testing

Resting

Finding a shadowed seat

Protected from this heat

I'm struggling to keep at bay

My body's overheating way

More I must rest

Is this a test?

Coping under great stress

Patience I don't possess

Reduce the strain

Praying for rain

Invictus spirit

Vast and endless blue sky waits

Hope finds it's own way

...

The sky torments us

Rewriting scars long suppressed

Is there no relief

Ignite the moonlight

Celebrating equinox

A revolution

...

When at life's threshold

Look back with awe and wonder

Giving thanks agai

...

Your sweet charms are false

You will not fool me again

Truth's path I'll follow

A leafy roof hangs far above

Where sunlight peeks, a gentle dove

These ancient trees stand tall and proud

Their branches whisper to the cloud

A mossy carpet soft and deep

Where tiny creatures softly creep

A babbling brook singing it's tune

Beneath the palest newest moon

Flowers bloom in colours bright

A wondrous, pastel, calming sight

The forest breathes a peaceful sigh

Then gentle breezes wave goodbye

...

Creature soft with fur of midnight hue

Stretches out, a silent, watchful guest

Emerald eyes survey the world anew

Finding a place to lay his weary crest

Gentle paws he kneads into the rug

Rumbling purr, a comfort in the night

Chasing dreams and tiny, playful bugs

He sleeps, bathed in the moon’s soft light

His tail now flicks, questioning the air

Silent plea for strokes and gentle praise

He climbs the chair, without any care

And naps through long, warm, quiet days

A furry friend, always loyal and true

He brightens our lives, each day anew

What is an artist?

A painter with a brush, pen, chalk, water or mud

Colours bright and bold thrown around for fun

A sculptor with their hands, feet, sticks or plates

Making ideas come alive in shapes and forms that speak

A writer with stories woven through with truth

Words that flow like streams becoming waterfalls or brooks

A dancer with their feet, hands, wheels or ropes

Living out a dream to make their movement speak

A musician with a song, classical or rock

Melodies that dance and fill the air with inspiration to move

An artist takes ideas and creates something new

Shares their heart with the world hoping to connect with a few

...

Fallow deer of old

Roaming ancient woodland groves

Longing for freedom

Sleepy eyes open

Immediately on guard

What is the danger

...

Lavender skies sing

Calla liies dance and sway

Care free summer days

...

Camping time

Rain showers

A wash out

Yet we play

Unhidden

Free at last

Then we sleep

Exhausted

Happy days

...

As the moon slowly switches off the sun

Symphonies in silence sing luscious lullabies

Guiding us longingly through lavish lands

As we find our way in the world by starlight

...

Sun kissed, round and bright

Apples are a pure delight

Orange is a juicy treat

Fresh and clean it can't be beat

Peaches grin softly from fuzzy skin

Berries are perfect as days begin

Melons refresh with a watery splash

Pineapple brings a tropical dash

Sweet and tart, vibrantly they grow

Eat every day for a healthy glow

...

One love shining bright

Embracing all pain and hurt

Improving the world

...

Almost time for sleep

Bedtime can't come quick enough

Until then I'll nap!

...

The starting gun goes

But I'm stuck on the spot

My brain is urging my legs to move

But they are going nowhere

Doing nothing

It's as if my brain is back firing

Because it is!

Yes you read that right!

My brain has lost connection

Forgotten how to communicate

It's raising an objection

Without any inner debate

Now all I feel is rejection

Will my brain recuperate?

Spoiler....

It didn't!

...

The loud bang, a sudden sound

But my feet stay on the ground

My head shouts, "Go! Run fast!"

But my legs refuse to start

They will not move, they will not try

A broken plane that just won't fly

My brain's command, twisting inside

The signal lost, I sat and cried

...

Old stone in my hand

Memory of sunny days

Warmth stays even now

...

Painted scene so still, a natural show

Of butterflies with wings of finest hue

Upon a boat going wherever waters flow

Sailing beneath a sky painted blue

No wind can stir the canvas sleek

No creaking wood, no waves inside

Quiet colours hold their secrets deep

Painted dreams within this artwork ride

Tiny vessel go steady and ever neat

Carries its passenger through painted air

A whispered story so bittersweet

Of journeys taken without worldly care

In this frame a silent voyage plays

A painted wonder from forgotten days

...

From the crows nest we can clearly observe

The gentle curvature of our earth

The beauty of the oceans we must conserve

Lapping against the windows of our berths

We see the amazing power of the tides

The awesome wonder of the deep

The many animals we live beside

So why do we use them as if their lives are cheap?

Sometimes I think we're less clever than sheep

Following leaders blindly with the rest of the herd

Destroying the earth as it's bounties we reap

Ignoring the truth as if it's really absurd

Oh how I wish leaders would see the truth

That it's only ourselves that we will destroy

Our only hope is to encourage the youth

To follow the science and more care to employ

...

The sky above so wide and blue

Landscapes vast, forever new

My dreams take flight, in ways unseen

Bird song limitless, so serene

...

Tideborne dreams rising

Towards still ocean whispers

Going with the flow

Into the silence we prowl

Tiger stripes of courage roar

...

Why don't you appreciate me?

I give your phone new life, you see

When it’s low, tired, and weak

I’m the power it does seek

Plugged in, a gentle hum I make

Then sleepy battery is more awake

From nearly zero, I lift it high

Then it can work, play, or even fly

You rely on me when the battery's down

Across the room or out on the town

I wait patiently sitting by the wall

Ready to help you answer a call

Without my steady, reliable flow

Your phone would dim, function slow

No photos, calls or any games

Just quiet, dark, and empty frames

So please, next time you see my cord

Remember the help that I afford

I'm just a charger, simple and true

Providing power, just for you

...

Sunflowers

Bright colours

Brighten days

Roses so red

New romance

Daffodils

Yellow spots

In green grass

The crown of June glints

Dancing on every flower

Giving thanks for rain

...

Photographs capture only the self we show

Our truth we reserve for trusted souls

...

Our environment tests us

Yet in reality it is us that tests the planet

Pushing it beyond it's limits

Depleting it's resources

Desecrating it's sacred nature

Thinking we're the most important creature

Rather than accepting our place

With compassion and grace

...

Phoenix rising high

Lifting our eyes to the sky

Watching rainbows fly

...

Beasts of burden trip

Caught in the footprints of time

Memories cascade

Memories cascade

As history holds whispers

Longing for release

Longing for release

On dark nights peaceful pillows

Weep with the willows

...

The scent of sadness is petrichor seeping from the land we loved and lost

Glimmers of hope sparkle at the edges of vision, inviting your heart to open again despite the pain and hurt

...

I am only me

One person amongst people

Surviving each day

...

Pineapple

You turn my life upside down

Every spike embedded into my soul

As I drip sweet tears upon the floor

And strangers knock at the door

Unnervingly

...

Often deep, a world unseen

Coral gardens, vibrant green

Ever moving, tidal flows

All the creatures swim below

Nurturing life in watery gleams

Secrets hold such peaceful dreams

...

The Earth breathes deep, emits a sigh

As smoke clouds dirty up the sky

From deep below the oil we take

Powers lives but puts lives at stake

We warm our homes and live in haste

Leaving behind a pile of waste

Rivers weep with poisoned tears

Oceans rise heightening our fears

It's a heavy price our planet pays

As we burn these fuels day after day

There's still a chance to make things right

If each of us takes up the fight

Tell governments and business too

"We won't stand by, we demand that you

Turn from greed and war and power

Stop destroying this planet of ours"

There is still time, if we start to act

To reduce our planetary impact
